Pads, discs, fluid and callipers. We check the whole braking system and tell you what needs changing now and what can wait.
In a nutshell
- GSP Garage replaces brake pads, discs and brake fluid in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Tenerife.
- At GSP Garage, front brake pads cost from €75 and front discs and pads from €190, fitted and including IGIC.
- Brake pads usually last between 30,000 and 60,000 km, and brake fluid should be changed every 2 years.
- On long descents, such as the roads down from Teide, use a low gear so the brakes do not overheat.
Long descents and hot brakes
Coming down from Teide or Anaga with your foot on the brake the whole way heats the brakes until they lose bite. Use a low gear and let the engine hold the car. If there is a burning smell at the bottom or the pedal feels longer, bring the car in.
What we check
- Pad and disc thickness.
- Brake fluid level and condition.
- Callipers, slider pins and brake hoses.
- Handbrake.
- Wear sensors and ABS warning light.
Frequently asked questions
How much do new brake pads cost in Tenerife?
Front pads cost from €75, fitted and including IGIC. If the discs need changing too, from €190. We give you the price for your car in writing before we start.
How often do brake pads need changing?
Usually between 30,000 and 60,000 km, depending on how you drive. On the island, with so many hills, they tend to wear faster. We check them at every service.
Why are my brakes squealing?
Often it is the wear indicator telling you the pads are nearly finished. It can also be dust, surface rust after a few days parked or a glazed pad. If the noise is metallic, get it checked straight away.
How often should brake fluid be changed?
Every 2 years, unless the manufacturer says otherwise. The fluid absorbs moisture and, over time, boils sooner on long descents.
